Supplements — should you be taking them, and do they really help?
Most supplements on the market are not food based but synthetic. What this means is the ingredients are foreign to the body and in most cases, toxic to your health. To learn more about natural (plant-derived) and synthetic (chemically-derived) we recommend the book by Dr. Brian Clement, Supplement Exposed: The Truth They Don’t Want You to Know About Vitamins, Minerals, and Their Effects on Your Health. Here at Natural Medicine & Detox, we encourage our patients to eat more living foods. Living food, such as sprouts, are alive when you eat them and full of life, nutrients, and enzymes unlike cooked and processed foods that have minimal nutritional benefits. The most cost-efficient and best way to do this is to grow your own sprouts and microgreens at home if you can. If you don’t have the time or space for it, it is easy to find them at farmers’ markets and even in some stores.
If you are a healthy person and want to stay healthy and look younger than your years, you should start now. For those struggling with a serious health challenge or disease, a strict diet may be necessary to get well. Most people’s health would greatly improve if they avoided sugar, dairy, and unhealthy cooked/processed carbs and ate sprouted food with each meal or as a meal.
